World Mission Sunday

A message From Jenny Noyes:

January 1, 2026

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

As followers of Christ, we are called to take the good news of the gospel, the light of the world, to the ends of the earth. We are blessed to have a liturgical calendar that trains us to inhabit God’s story, allowing the life of Christ to shape both our personal faith and the shared life of the Church over time. The season of Epiphany centers on the revelation of Jesus Christ to the Nations. It proclaims Jesus not only as Israel’s Messiah, but as the Savior of the whole world. The visit of the Magi, Gentiles from afar, signals that Christ has come for every nation, tribe, and people.

Epiphany bridges Christmas joy and the outward movement of the Gospel. Celebrating World Mission Sunday during this season reinforces that true worship of the revealed Christ leads to obedience, proclamation, and sending.

This year World Mission Sunday will be celebrated on February 8, 2026. It is a day set apart in the life of the Church to focus intentionally on God’s mission to the world. It calls congregations and individuals to pray for, support, and participate in the proclamation of the Gospel among all peoples, especially those who have not yet heard about or received Christ. This day emphasizes that mission is not a specialized activity for a few, but a calling entrusted to the whole Church by Christ Himself (Matthew 28:18–20). Consider having a missionary preach, teach, or share a testimony from their mission field. Use the World Mission Sunday Litany during your Prayers of the People.

As we prepare to mark World Mission Sunday, I invite you personally into prayerful reflection, renewed commitment, and joyful participation in God’s mission to the nations. Some dioceses and congregations highlight their global missions partners through the whole season of Epiphany. At New Wineskins, we have assembled many helpful resources all in one place at newwineskins.org/worldmissionsunday. In particular, I commend you to find a place in your Christian Education schedule to offer one of our world missions courses: the 6-week Anglican Introduction to Missions (AIM) course, available through Amazon, or the Anglican Frontier Missions’ 4-week curricula for adults and kids, linked to on the site above.

May this day awaken in us a deeper love for Christ and a greater faithfulness to His call to pray, go, send, and support the spreading of the Gospel near and far. Consider taking up a special offering for one of our Anglican Agency Partners. May the Light revealed to the nations continue to shine through us, until the whole world knows the hope found in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Blessings,

Jenny Noyes
