New Banners for Beach Church

by Jessica Lee

Enjoy these photos of the banners we created at Beach Church for Lent and Palm Sunday, this year joyfully paired with our child-led High-Five Sunday. These paraments were lovingly sewn by a talented seamstress in our congregation and then brought to life with paint.

The burlap, while beautifully rustic, proved to be quite a challenge. Its coarse texture didn’t easily cooperate with its new sacred purpose! Still, with patience and care, it became a meaningful canvas for our community’s creativity.

The Lenten paraments were painted by Rev. Jessica Lee, while the Palm Sunday banners were primarily painted by the children (with a little help from me). We gathered for a joyful painting session, with parents and kids working side by side to create something truly special.

These banners will now be a cherished part of our Palm Sunday celebrations each year, alongside additional matching banners we’ll use for future High-Five Sundays throughout the year.

The Rev. Dr. Jessica Fulton Lee, is the Associate Rector at The Beach Church in Virginia Beach, VA.
