Timeline and Important Dates

Summer 2021: The Executive Committee and College of Bishops of the Anglican Church in North America give permission for the Diocese to begin the process of electing a new bishop.

September 14, 2021: Bishop John announces to the clergy of the Diocese his call for the process to begin leading to the election and consecration of his successor and to his retirement. Follow-up email with video announcement sent to the members of the Diocese.

Fall 2021: Standing Committee develops the Profile of the Diocese and the Bishop we seek.

October 2021: Standing Committee invites Rectors/Vicars and Senior Wardens to submit names for possible appointment to the Committee on Nominations for Bishop.

November 19-20, 2021: Annual Synod of the Diocese. Information session held about the transition process.

November 30, 2021: Deadline for applications and Rector/Senior Warden Letters of Recommendation of persons to serve on the Committee on Nominations.

December 2021-January 2022: Standing Committee appoints the Committee on Nominations for Bishop. The Committee immediately begins its work.

Winter 2022: Standing Committee appoints other teams:

  • Communications Team

  • Intercessory Prayer Team

  • “Meet the Nominees” Process Committee

  • Electing Synod Committee

  • Bishop-Elect Transition Committee

  • Guernseys’ Transition Committee

Summer 2022: Final slate published by Committee on Nominations for Bishop at least 90 days prior to Electing Synod (that is, no later than July 17, 2022).

July 18-August 1, 2022: Nominations by petition may be submitted

September 2, 2022: Deadline to submit questions for candidates

September 27 & 28, 2022: Walkabouts (Opportunities for clergy and lay delegates to the Electing Synod to meet the Nominees)

October 15, 2022: Electing Synod

November 18-19, 2022: Annual Synod of the Diocese

January 2023: College of Bishops votes to consent to the election

February 18, 2023: Consecration of new Bishop
