For the Sake of Others: Joining God’s Work in Bali

by Sallie Rathbone

A few months ago I asked God what does for the sake of others look like in the ministries you have called me to. His response came as a surprise, perhaps even a shock. The Spirit gave me a clear sense, a turn inside of me that shifted my focus. At the end of this calendar year I will be traveling to Bali, Indonesia for a two-year mission.

This is what happened to me when I heard about the new Anglican seminary in Indonesia: Anglican Theological College. As I heard and prayed about this opportunity it became clear that my skill sets aligned with the work that needs to be done.

Indonesia is a country rich in history and culture. This string of islands is the largest Muslim country in the world; however, the city of Bali is predominantly Hindu.

This new college needs accreditation. This is where my skill set of 45 years in education aligns with the need.

One of the goals of the seminary is to have an Anglican church in all 37 provinces in the Diocese of Singapore. Upon graduation these seminary students will be launching into these areas that are in desperate need of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This is an opportunity for our churches as well. Currently I am seeking churches to partner with as God’s mission in Bali unfolds. Our diocese is committed to planting churches, so is the Diocese of Singapore.

When I move to Bali, I will be dependent on support teams that are in place as well as financial support. If your congregation feels called to join in this mission I am available to speak with your congregation either as a whole or with your mission committee. Please consider an ongoing monthly commitment to partner with me in reaching the unreached through the Anglican Theological College.

Southeast Asia is a place where God is on the move. God is sweeping through this region and planting churches at an almost unbelievable rate. The harvest is ready and there are laborers who are seeking to work in these ripe fields.
