Vivian Hayes receives Theological Award

On May 17, 2025, during the Trinity Anglican Seminary’s commencement ceremony, The Rev. Vivian Hayes (Church of the Messiah, Chesapeake, VA) received Trinity's Theological Award for demonstrated passion and proficiency in Theology—congratulations!

Vivian writes:

“I share the testimony of many students in that my understanding of the Christian faith was challenged and stretched in seminary.  My systematic theology professor encouraged us to dig deeply into the Church's faith statements—statements I am ashamed to admit I numbly recited regularly in the Nicene Creed at church. In learning the history of the Church and the distinctives of the Anglican faith, I was convicted of my "chronological snobbery": modern-day challenges to orthodox Christianity are often the repackaging of heresies faced by faithful Christians from antiquity.  My professors and fellow seminarians from various life and denominational strands helped me to grow as we wrestled with the implications of Gospel truth. The creeds I once numbly recited became precious and beautiful as I understood their catechetical importance in our liturgy.  As I consider my theological journey and the caliber of the professors who shepherded me, I was honored and humbled to merit the faculty's unanimous decision to receive Trinity's Senior Theological Award for demonstrated passion and proficiency in theology.  Soli Deo Gloria - To God alone be the glory!”
