🌱The Public Launch of St. Barnabas 🌱
by Patrick Cunningham
Saint Barnabas Church (Towsend, MD) debuted on the last weekend of April at the Towsontown Festival. We set up a tent to greet and pray for the hundreds that walked past us. We gave away reusable grocery bags emblazoned with our logo and filled with stickers and a brochure describing our new church plant. Despite a dismal weather forecast, Saturday was nice and dry as we talked to about 100 people - right up until 5PM when the heavens opened up and soaked our crew to the skin. Sunday was a much shorter day with rain on and off, but offered another 30 interactions.
On Sunday afternoon, we held our first regular communion service. We are currently renting the sanctuary and children’s area of a former Lutheran Church in Towson, located one block from Towson University and two blocks from Towson High School. As we began to worship, I was particularly gratified looking out on our small but growing community to realize that about 1/3 of the people attending were strangers to us less than a year ago. Each person has arrived by one means or another since we started gathering last June. Please pray for us as we continue to grow!
