Diocese offers Preaching Cohort

Ready to grow as a preacher—without pressure?

Last summer, the Diocese launched its first-ever Preaching Cohort, led by Dr. Jeff Arthurs, Professor/Dept Chair at Dallas Theological Seminary and Adjunct Professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  Initially created for recently ordained—or soon-to-be ordained—clergy in DOMA, this cohort offered a welcoming, low-pressure environment where preachers could sharpen their skills, take risks, and be encouraged.

The response was overwhelmingly positive as members of the cohort described it as encouraging, practical, and invaluable. They appreciated the chance to receive thoughtful, real-time feedback, learn from an experienced homiletician, and grow alongside clergy from across the diocese. Several participants followed up with one another to practice and share sermons.

This year, the 2026 Preaching Cohort will be offered to all clergy regardless of experience who are interested in honing their homiletical skills in community.

The cohort will require in person attendance for two weekends: Friday afternoon April 10- Saturday morning April 11 and Friday afternoon April 24 and Saturday morning April 25.  In between those, cohort members will need the time set aside to exegete and craft a 12 minute sermon. There is limited space in the cohort. Watch for more details and applications to arrive soon via email.
