Here are answers to frequently asked questions!

Synod is the legislative body of the diocese that has the authority to adopt and amend our constitution and laws that govern our diocese, approve resolutions and our budget, elect bishops of the diocese and representatives to diocesan committees. However, this takes up part of one day only. Synod is also a time for the whole diocese to gather together for worship and teaching.
What does the Schedule look like?
Friday November 15
Registration opens at 4:00 PM.
Eucharist: 7:30 pm, reception following

Throughout the day, we will hear testimonies of what God is going among us from some of our churches
Morning Session: Bishop’s Report, Committee elections, adoption of the 2014 budget.

Afternoon Sessions: The afternoon sessions will be broken down into interest sessions. Some of the topics covered include: The Rev. Dr. Gerald McDermott speaking on heaven and hell, church planting, social media in the local church, and an introduction to our diocesan policy on child abuse prevention, Protecting Children.
Exhibits of ministries will be set up in the atrium at All Saints’ Church. In addition there will be a book table with a selection of books and gift items for purchase. They will be on display Friday and until the close of Synod on Saturday.

If I’m not a delegate, can I still attend?
Anyone one may attend all sessions Synod as well as the Friday night Eucharist. However, only diocesan clergy and lay delegates from churches in the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic may vote.

All clergy and delegates need to register.
If you plan to be with us for Saturday and will be staying for lunch we DO need you to register so that we have an accurate count for lunch.
If you wish to attend either the Friday evening Eucharist or only the Saturday afternoon breakout sessions you do NOT need to register.

I’ll need accommodations Friday night. Where can I stay?
Another block of rooms has been reserved at The Comfort Inn, 16931 Old Stage Road, in Dumfries, VA (about six miles from All Saints’ Church). The cost is also $88/night plus tax with a full breakfast included. Call 703-445-8070 and mention Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic Synod to reserve a room there. Rooms will be held at this price until Nov. 1, 2013.
